Digital Activism – Eva Pascoe fireside chat with Dr Richard Barbrook on Digital Campaigns with students of Digital Politics University of Westminster (Feb 2021)
Eva Pascoe, cofounder for Cyberia Cafe, world’s first Internet Cafe at fireside Chat with Dr Richard Barbrook and students of Digital Politics (University of Westminster) Feb 2021 Eva talks about history of Internet Cafes dating back to protest cafes in San Francisco in early 70ties, on fighting against Criminalisation of Raves in 1994, supporting Clubs and Festivals with ISDN lines, later after Snowden campaigning for Digital Bill of Rights in UK- core of which was included in 2019 Labour Party Manifesto, Save High Street campaign with Bill Grimsey resulting in 600mln rebate on business rates, pro-diversity game making for Google (On The Surface) and many other ways of fighting for the rights of digital citizens. She argues against Twitter censorship stand and also draws from history of censorship noting that all the way since Easynet, the first UK ISP there were attempts by the government to regulate ‘content’ on line – none of those attempts successful as governments dont want to be specifying what needs to be regulated, leaving it to tech companies instead.
